William Mahone (1826-1895)

Mahone was a Confederate general who graduated from the Virginia Military Institute. Before the war he was an engineer for several railroads, and then president of the Norfolk & Petersburg Railroad. After the war he continued to work for the railroad, served a term in the United States Senate, and became a powerful force in Virginia state politics.
