Joseph Wheeler (1836-1906)
Joseph Wheeler was a Confederate general who was known as "Fightin' Joe." After the war, he served in the United States House of Representatives from 1885-1900. During the Spanish-American War, when President William McKinley appointed him major general of volunteers, the appointment was hailed as a healing of the wounds of the Civil War.
