"The Lincoln Beast"

This cartoon depicts Abraham Lincoln as a beast stomping on the American rights of "freedom of the press" and "habeas corpus" while dangling a fishing pole that says, "my will is law" with bait called "my emancipation joke" above an African American. Lincoln's secretary of state, William Seward, forms the end of the Lincoln beast's tail and says,"I have only to touch that little bell and I can imprison any man in the United States," as he rings a bell attached to the "Seward liberty pole."
