This is a close-up of the crowd behind Abraham Lincoln at his second inauguration. The Supreme Court justices in the first row (from left): Nelson, Clifford, Swayne, Miller, and Field. Just above Justice Miller in the broad brimmed hat with the low crown is artist Francis B. Carpenter, who lived in the Lincoln White House for six months. Just above Justice Clifford is the smiling face of Schuyler Colfax.
