Lincoln's Funeral in Springfield
On the day before the final funeral, citizens line up to enter the rear of the Springfield State House, where Lincoln lies in state. The black man fifth in line is the Reverend Henry Brown, who led Lincoln's horse in the funeral procession. The funeral in Springfield, even more so than in Chicago, was different from the earlier ones, for here Lincoln had been well known to large numbers of people, and for a much longer time than he had been known in Washington.
