John Quincy Adams (1767-1848)
John Quincy Adams was the sixth President of the United States and the first son of a President to attain the office. He also served as secretary of state under James Monroe becoming the chief architect of the Monroe Doctrine. Adams was the only ex-president ever to serve in the House of Representatives. He served in Congress for seventeen years, becoming the most passionate and respected liberal voice in Washington. He died in 1848 suffering a fatal stroke on the floor of the House of Representatives.
