Dorothy Meserve Kunhardt's Lincoln Identifications

Frederick Hill Meserve's undated letter verifies his daughter Dorothy's identitification of judges in Gardner's second Lincoln inaugural photograph. Dorothy Meserve Kunhardt identified these Supreme Court justices sitting in the first row, at President Lincoln's left: S. Nelson, N. Clifford, N. Swayne, S. Miller, S. J. Field. Just above Miller in the broad brimmed hat is artist Francis Carpenter. Just above Clifford is Schuyler Colfax, smiling at Lincoln.
