"Army of the West"

Here are seven Union generals who figured prominently in the American Civil War battles of the West including (clockwise from top): George Henry Thomas, Henry Warner Slocum, James Birdseye McPherson, Lovell Harrison Rousseau, Hugh Judson Kilpatrick, Oliver Otis Howard and William Tecumseh Sherman (center). This collage was put together by Mathew Brady and then sold as a souvenir carte de visite.
