Harpers Ferry
The ferry is seen from the Maryland side of the Potomac. The bridge linked Virginia to Maryland via the Baltimore and Ohio railroad. It was destroyed, and rebuilt and patched time after time during the war. Across on the Virginia side, to the right of center, is the arsenal where John Brown was captured. Its rifle-making machine was moved south and became the principle source of muskets for the Confederacy.
