Federal Naval Station at Mound City

This was the levee in front of the Naval Station in Mound City, Illinois. When the station at Cairo, Illinois proved inadequate for the needs of the river squadrons (since all repairs had to be made in the water), the depot at Mound City was created and many ironclads were built and repairs made by a large squadron of shipwrights, mechanics, carpenters, and engineers.
