George P. Putnam (1814-1872)

G. P. Putnam published the books of many classic American authors including Washington Irving, James Fenimore Cooper, William Cullen Bryant, and Edgar Allen Poe. He founded the forerunner of G. P. Putnam's Sons and published Putnam's Monthly which also published original works of American authors.
