Jake Kilrain (1859-1937)
Jake Kilrain was born John Joseph Killion. Jake was a bouncy, durable fighter with a solid punch and great stamina. He was recognized by Richard K. Fox (of the Police Gazette) as the Heavyweight Champion of the World in 1887. He is shown here in his boxing stance in a cabinet card by Conly's Portraits of 465 Washington Street in Boston.
