John J. Dwyer (1847-1882)

John Dwyer claimed the Heavyweight Championship of America during 1879-1880. He was a skillful boxer and a hard hitter who was tough, courageous, and possessed good boxing savvy. He is shown here in his boxing stance in a cabinet card by J. Wood of 208 Bowery in New York City.
