Montgomery Meigs (1816-1892)
Montgomery Meigs was the Quartermaster General of the Union army during the Civil War, and the engineer in charge of building the aqueduct that brought water from the great falls of the Potomac River into the city of Washington. He graduated from West Point in 1836. This painting shows renditions of his engineering projects in the background.
