Carnegie Library in Allegheny, Pennsylvania
In 1886, Allegheny was the first community to receive a grant from Andrew Carnegie to build a library. He spent $481,012 to build this library which contained an art gallery and a music hall. Allegheny, which is now better known as the North Side of the City of Pittsburgh, was the community where the Carnegie family first settled in the United States.
