Edward Miner Gallaudet (1837-1917)
Edward Miner Gallaudet was the first president of the convention of American instructors of the deaf. He was an early advocate of the use of sign language in the education of deaf children. During his career, Gallaudet published over one hundred articles on various aspects of deaf education.
