This is the 1st Lieutenant of the 59th Massachusetts Volunteers Infantry of the Union Army in a carte de visite by C. E. Mitchell of 89 Merrimack Street in Lowell. His name is handwritten on the back and it appears to be William A. Gilfield or Garfield.
