George Washington Getty (1819-1901)
George Washington Getty graduated fifteenth in the West Point class of 1840 and made the Army his career. He was brevetted for gallantry in the Mexican War, where he campaigned with Winfield Scott as an artillery lieutenant. He fought against the Seminole Indians in Florida in 1849-50 and again in 1856-57. During the Civil War he became a brigadier general of volunteers and commanded infantry.
