George Cooper Gibbs (1822-1876)
George Cooper Gibbs was a Confederate soldier who spent most of the Civil War guarding prisoners of war. He commanded prisons in Richmond, Lynchburg, and Salisbury, North Carolina. He was transferred to the command at Andersonville on June 2, 1864, and was later a witness at the trial of Henry Wirz.
