Alfred Gibbs (1823-1868)
Alfred Gibbs graduated from West Point in 1846 and served in the Mexican War where he was wounded and received two brevets. Gibbs was captured by Texan troops on July 27, 1861, and was not exchanged until August 7, 1862. He then commanded a volunteer infantry that he converted into mounted infantry. Gibbs was brevetted major general of regulars and volunteers.
