Anne Jane Hartley Gilbert (1821-1904)

Anne Jane Hartley Gilbert, an actress, is shown here in the role of Pocahontas. She was born in Rochdale, Lancashire, England, and she married George H. Gilbert, a dancer and manager. From barnstorming tours through England and Ireland they earned enough money to emigrate to America.
