These two illustrations from Frank Leslie's Illustrated Newspaper show contrasting voting scenes from the North and South. A man in New York City reads a memorandum from an election bulletin on the left, and on the right, South Carolina plantation hands travel to the polls in a primitive wagon to cast their votes.
