"The Political Barbecue"
This cartoon satirizes the political controversy surrounding President Andrew Jackson's withdrawal of federal funds from the Second Bank of the United States. Jackson is being roasted as a pig on the fires of public opinion, while Martin Van Buren (shown as a little scampering animal) flees with a bag of Treasury Notes. Overseeing the roasting are five critics of the president's bank policy: Henry Clay, Daniel Webster, William B. Preston, bank president Nicholas Biddle, and an unidentified man.
