Samuel Slater (1768-1835)
Samuel Slater was the founder of the American cotton-textile industry. He was born in England, but came to America in 1789 and brought with him a knowledge of water-powered textile mills and manufacturing. This print was engraved by William N. Dunnel from a painting by Cole.
