In this political cartoon, Martin Van Buren is being shown out of the White House on William Henry Harrison's 1841 inauguration day. Harrison is at the window telling Major Downing to offer Van Buren a glass of hard cider -- a symbol of Harrison's popular appeal during the campaign. (Major Downing was a fictional political commentator.)
