Final Negotiations for the Release of Hostages in Iran

Early on January 20, 1981, the last morning of the Carter presidency, Jimmy Carter and Vice President Walter Mondale were still trying to work out the final details in the negotiations that would free the hostages in Iran. In a noontime ceremony this day Ronald Reagan would be sworn in.
