"Zachary Taylor at the Battle of O-Ke-Cho-Bee, Florida, in 1836"

This is an engraving from a Seminole War scene. The Battle of Lake Okeechobee was one of the bloodiest battles in nineteenth century warfare against the Indians. After the battle, which took place in December 1836, the future president was made into a brigadier because of his excellent service.
