John Quincy Adams, Sixth President of the United States (1767-1848)
This lithograph was engraved in c. 1830 by W. Ball after Gilbert Stuart's 1818 painting. Adams was the first son of a president to attain the same office. He also served as secretary of state under James Monroe, and was the chief architect of the Monroe Doctrine. Adams later served in the House of Representatives, becoming the only ex-president ever to do so.
