John Quincy Adams, Sixth President of the United States (1767-1848)
Thomas Gimbrede made this stipple and line engraving of John Quincy Adams in 1826 while Adams was president. The eagle, lyre and star symbols used in the background were suggested to Gimbrede by Adams. Adams had adopted them himself for his personal seal as representative of the United States.
