John Quincy Adams (1767-1848)
This engraving of an older John Quincy Adams appeared in the May 1845 issue of the American Review. It was engraved by George Parker after an 1843 painting by Edward Dalton Marchant owned by the New York Historical Society. Adams was serving in the House of Representatives at the time, and is the only ex-president ever to do so. He served in Congress for seventeen years, earning the nickname "Old Man Eloquent."
