"Andy Johnson, Military Governor of Tennessee"
In 1862 President Lincoln appointed Andrew Johnson to the position of military governor of Tennessee. Johnson remained in the position until 1865, at which point he became vice president under Lincoln. In this engraving, Johnson sits at a round table with a pen in his hand. A map of the United States hangs on the wall behind him. Through an arched opening, horses and soldiers can be seen outside.
