"Political Race Course - Union Track - Fall Races 1836"

This cartoon parodies the 1836 presidential election as a horse race between four candidates. The horses are: "Old Tippecanoe" (William Henry Harrison), "The Kinderhook Poney" (Martin Van Buren), "Black Dan of Massachusetts" (Daniel Webster), and "Tennessee White" (Tennessee senator Hugh Lawson White). President Andrew Jackson is shown riding the Van Buren horse. The three Whig candidates are ridden by figures representing various regional interests of the country. Harrison is ridden by a western figure in buckskins. Webster is ridden by Major Jack Downing, a fictional political figure of New England. White is ridden by a top-hatted jockey from the South.
