"Loco Foco Expresses, Arriving at Washington"
This political cartoon satirizes the effects of the Whig landslide in the 1836 New York State elections. President Martin Van Buren greets his defeated allies governor William L. Marcy (center) and Representative Churchill C. Cambreleng. The two politicians lost, despite being supported by the "Loco Foco" radical faction of the New York Democratic party.
