Richard Mentor Johnson (1780-1850)

Johnson was Martin Van Buren's vice president. A soldier and Kentucky politician, he is the only vice president ever elected by the senate, in the 1836 election. Johnson's political popularity was compromised because he lived openly with a mulatto woman.
