"The 'Rail-Splitter' at Work Repairing the Union"

This cartoon depicts Abraham Lincoln with a rail and Andrew Johnson with a thread and needle attempting to sew the Union back together. Johnson was a tailor by trade. Lincoln says to vice president Johnson, "A few more stitches ANDY and the good old UNION will be mended!" Johnson responds: "Take it quietly UNCLE ABE and I will draw it closer than ever!!"
