Police During the Watts Riots of 1965

A heavily-armed group of police and national guardsmen stand ready at an open manhole after dropping a tear gas shell inside during riots in the Watts section of Los Angeles. Escaped shooting suspects were believed to be using an underground storm sewer system to move around and evade capture following a gun battle between the police and Black Muslims.
