Oscar Wilde and Lord Alfred Douglas

This is an unmounted carte de visite photograph of Oscar Wilde and Lord Alfred Douglas posing on a bench. Wilde became intimate with Douglas, and the Marquis of Queensberry, DouglasÂ’ father, accused Wilde of homosexual practices. He was then charged with homosexual offenses under the Criminal Law Amendment, found guilty, and sentenced to prison for two years.
