This bronze statue was presented to the city of Springfield in 1918. It depicts Lincoln in 1861 as he said farewell to his friends and neighbors before boarding a train for the White House. The sculptor was Andrew O'Connor who studied sculpture under Daniel Chester French, the sculptor famous for his seated Lincoln in the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, DC.
