This is a modern aerial view of Springfield, Illinois. It became the state capital in 1837 through the efforts of Abraham Lincoln and eight other members of the Illinois legislature known as the "Long Nine," because they were all over six feet in height. Springfield is widely known as the home and final resting place of Lincoln.
