"Columbia Teaching John Bull His New Lesson"

Made in the War of 1812, this cartoon is a satire on Anglo-American and Franco-American relations. John Bull is on the right, and Napoleon in the middle. Columbia teaches England about America's determination to maintain "Free trade" and "Seaman's rights," while France is warned of Yankee firmness on matters of "Retribution" and "Respect."
