The Assassination of President James Garfield

On July 2, 1881, at a railway station in Washington, DC, James Garfield was shot in the back by Charles J. Guiteau, a disappointed office seeker. James Blaine supports Garfield, while to the left the assassin is being subdued. The illustration is by Arthur Berghaus and Charles Upham.
