President Garfield on his Death Bed

It was over two months before Garfield died from the gunshot wound inflicted on July 2, 1881. During this time many unsterilized instruments and hands were placed on his wound. Doctors eventually let Alexander Graham Bell use his "induction balance" method to try to locate the bullet that lodged inside Garfield, but he was unsuccessful.
