Laying Tracks for President Garfield's Train

Garfield was shot by Charles J. Guiteau on July 2, 1881. He remained in Washington for many weeks, until he was moved by train to Elberon, New Jersey. Special tracks had to be laid that could take the train all the way to his cottage destination.
