"Battle of Resaca"

Resaca, Georgia, was the scene of a battle between General William T. Sherman's troops and a Confederate force led by General Joseph Johnston on May 14-15, 1864. Both sides suffered heavy losses but the Confederates were able to make a tactical retreat. However, the Federals were successful in driving the Confederates deeper into the Georgia woods. Future president Colonel Benjamin Harrison led the 70th Indiana Regiment into this battle as his first military assignment under fire. This lithograph was engraved and published by Kurz & Allison in 1889.
