"Poetic Justice"
In this cartoon by George Yost Coffin (1850-96), a solicitor named D.Mocracy opens his door to find a baby Grover Cleveland on a mattress at his door step. Cleveland has a bottle of "Monopoly Milk." On the boot-scraper is "Campaign Mud." He is labeled "A Good (?) Baby Weighing 250 lbs." In his left hand he holds a balloon string, and the balloon at the end of the string reads "Sham Reforms, The Bubble Reputation." The character standing at the corner of the house is dressed in women's clothing and holds a paper reading "Baby Mine, as sung by HOThompson, in his great role of Tweed II, Dedicated to Grover Cleveland." The man referred to is Hubert O. Thompson, whose corruption is being compared to that of William Tweed.
