President & Mrs. Grover Cleveland Depart After the Marriage
As Grover Cleveland and his new wife Frances Folsom Cleveland depart for Maryland, the guests throw rice and also a pair of shoes, following an old English tradition. One shoe can be seen falling down the steps, and another on the ground in front of Mrs. Cleveland. The wedding took place on June 2, 1886. This illustration appeared in the June 12, 1886 issue of Frank Leslie's Illustrated Newspaper.
