Doctors Tend to President Garfield

This front cover illustration from "Frank Leslie's Illustrated Newspaper," July 30, 1881, shows Garfield lying in bed in the White House. Various doctors hover around the bed. The woman with the fan may be Dr. Susan Edson. Garfield was shot on July 2, 1881 by Charles Guiteau, and died from the wound on September 19.
