"Westward the March of Empire Takes Its Flight"

This broadside from the 1840 presidential campaign was subtitled "A Brief Sketch of the Principal Events in the Lives of William Henry Harrison and John Tyler With Splendid Ornaments." The text is framed by small portraits of Harrison and Tyler and two Doric columns listing famous military leaders with selected quotes from them. The bases of the columns feature pictures of Harrison's War of 1812 victories at Tippecanoe and Lake Erie. It also includes pictures of Whig supporters Nathaniel P. Tallmadge and William C. Rives and a picture of Harrison's home in North Bend, Ohio. The broadside was designed, written and published by Benjamin Owen Tyler of Albany, New York, and lithographed by Baker.
