Grant's Handwritten Note on his Deathbed
This is a photograph of Ulysses S. Grant's handwritten note to his primary physician, Dr. Douglas, on his deathbed on July 3, 1885. He wrote, "What is to be my fate tonight doctor? Will I have to lay awake again? Making it a study how to get a breath! It is about as much as I could stand to go through another night."
