In this engraving, Taylor wears military uniform, and sits at a small round table with some papers and a quill. One hand is tucked inside his coat. Underneath the engraving are written the names and dates of some of his military successes: Fort Harrison, 1812; Okee Chobee, 1837; Palo Alto, 1846; Resaca de la Palma, 1846; Monterey [sic], 1846; and Buena Vista, 1847. The lithograph was engraved from an original sketch by T. Doney.
